Why I Love Friends to Lovers Books
I like books about childhood friendships that turn into friendships into love. The characters have a lot of history together, so you usually see them be comfortable with each other and be able to tell each other the most private parts of their lives.
The best part is when one character has that moment where they see their friend in a completely new way and wonder if they could take their long-term friendship in a new direction.
Finally, in all books about friendship to love, there’s the question of whether it’s worth risking friendship to try for something else.
Many books about friendship to love can also be called “second chance love stories.”
List: This is only a list of books about friendship to love, not those that also have a second chance. Another book list is coming, so stay tuned!
If you like books about friends to lovers, you might also like books about enemies to lovers. This is because both types of books are about people who become lovers. I’m sure I’m right.

The Best Friends to Lovers Books
Like Lovers Do by Tracey Livesay
This is a great book about how friends become lovers when they meet in person.
Nic’s new medical fellowship is in danger because she disciplined a donor’s son. Ben is happy to ask his well-respected family to help Nic. Nic doesn’t want to rely on her neighbor or friend, so she agrees to act as his girlfriend on a weekend trip to keep his ex away.
When friends agree to have a fake relationship, they can finally become lovers. I love how that works!
It’s clear from the start of this story that these two are good friends and that they’d do anything for each other. When they went away for a few days, they finally saw that they might want more.
I think this is a great book for this type of story. It’s very well-written and diverse.
The Change Up by Meghan Quinn
This is one of the best “friends to lovers” stories, even though one of the friends is a professional baseball player.
It might be hard to believe, but Maddox is a softie when it comes to his childhood best friend, Kinsey. Maddox is known as the bad boy of baseball. In the event that she needs somewhere to stay, he would let her move into his one-bedroom apartment.
Oh, how the flames fly between these two when they are close together. Maddox and Kinsey have great chemistry, even though they are completely different. I also liked how they both had a hard time figuring out if the other person was falling as hard as they were.
Quinn’s baseball romances are some of the best, and this one hit the mark for the friends to lovers trope.
Marriage on Madison Avenue by Lauren Layne
Friends to lovers is a book that tells the story of a fake engagement between two best friends. If you like stories about fake relationships, you’ll want to read this one.
Audrey still can’t believe that her boyfriend was married and had a woman on the side. She doesn’t believe there will ever be a happy ending for her. Then, in the gossip rags, she reads that she’s been recently engaged to her best friend since childhood.
The way Audrey goes along with Clarke’s engagement ruse even though this isn’t even their first fake engagement is so cute! In this case, they were like two thieves and had the best time together. This made their growing love seem more real.
Blindsided by Amy Daws
You can say that this book made my heart swoon. My heart was aching for them to get together.
Afterwards, Freya told her best friends that she hasn’t popped her cherry. As the best friend he is, Mac says he’ll show her how to do things in the bedroom.
This book has everything. If you buy the movie, you get a hot, sweet football player who can see through his best friend’s body-shaming ways, and a funny seamstress whose character just let Daws’ humor shine through.
This book made me laugh so hard, but it also made me cry in the best ways. A must-read, book for friends and lovers.
Wicked Envy by Sawyer Bennett
In the mood for a book that turns friends into lovers? You should read this one.
Avril, Dane, and Andrew have been best friends since college. They now work for the same company, and they all go to school together. When Avril’s relationship breaks down, she wants to try something new, and that new thing is the Wicked Horse club. Having her two friends come with her changes everything.
This book was not only hot, but it also had a great storyline about how taking things to the bedroom can or can’t change a friendship.
You should read this book. It’s one of my all-time favorite romance books.
Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen
Friends to lovers book with a little bit of suspense and a fake relationship. This is a great book to read!
To protect Alex, she needs a bodyguard. She’s pregnant with an abusive ex’s baby and about to start an important project that is getting a lot of bad attention. Her new bodyguard was supposed to be Eric, a star NHL hockey player and her childhood friend. She didn’t expect him to be her new bodyguard.
They are both what make this book about two friends who become lovers so good. It’s great that Alex is so strong, but Eric is a good friend who isn’t afraid to use their fake relationship for his own benefit.
Many good things about this book. If you like it, you won’t be let down!
Truth or Beard by Penny Reid
This book has the best way to start off its story about going from friends to lovers.
When Jessica comes back to Green Valley after college, she still has a crush on Beau Winston. Only his twin, Duane, who was her childhood rival, has set out to woo her just as she’s planning to go on a world trip.
Duane has a plan to woo his girlfriend. Not many men do this these days, but Duane has a plan. One of the best books about going from frenemies and friends to lovers is this one. I love how his love for Jessica comes as a surprise to her.
Dirty Sexy Inked by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde
If you like books about hot friends to lovers with tattooed bad boys, this is the book for you.
I loved all of the books in this series, but this one was my favorite by far.
They’ve been best friends for years, and during that time, Mason has gone through a lot of women. When things change, they can never go back.
Mason and Katrina’s story was so good, I couldn’t stop reading. Their chemistry is great, and they’ve been in love with each other since they were little. This is how they’ve always been. All it took was one night in Las Vegas to get her to do it.
I can still remember how hot these two were long after I read this book. This is because I can still think about how hot they were. Fan: Every fan should read this book.
Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren
People who are true friends love you even though you have flaws. If Josh and Hazel are different in this book about friends becoming lovers, they are a great match.
During college, Hazel and Josh first met. After a series of bad (and embarrassing) things happened, their friendship didn’t last long until years later, when they saw each other again. In this case, they’re hanging out and going on double dates with each other. They’re dating but not dating, right?!
This book was more sweet than steamy, but it was still good. How they manage to go on these dates together with other people is just plain funny. It’s worth a look.
