It took her some time to figure out how she would fit in at the party, but she came up with a way to make the party even more special in her own way. This book is great for kids who love reading about magic.
Super Monsters: Sun Down, Monsters Up! by Meredith Rusu (PreK-1)
These kids are so cute that it's hard not to fall in love with them. Among them is Katya, the witch who goes to Pitchfork Pines Preschool. During this book, Katya can use her crystal wand to make people do things they don't want to do. In this book, there are stickers that glow in the dark, as well as a cover that glows in the dark. It's a great way to keep kids busy during this scary season.
The Hidden Witch by Molly Knox Ostertag (Grades 3-7)
Following the book The Witch Boy, Aster is learning how to be a witch from his grandmother in this follow-up. Aster is a boy. Aster has to deal with evil from his great-uncle, but he also has to deal with friendships, his identity, and where he fits in the world. I know it's a tall order, but kids love these themes. They're fun (and a little scary) when they're wrapped up in this story about a ghost.
Calling All Witches! by Laurie Calkhoven (Grades 3-7)
Hermione Granger, Minerva McGonagall and Leta Lestrange are some of the strong women in Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts, and they're back in this book about witches from popular books. This book shows how these female wizards made the wizarding world what it is today. It talks about how Hermione came to the rescue and how Luna Lovegood was kind and open-minded.

In this young adult book, James Patterson is a master of suspense, and it doesn't get any better. It's the first book in a five-book series called "Whit and Whisty." Whit and Whisty live in a dystopian society that has turned against them. It's been said that they were taken from their home in the middle of the night by soldiers. They were accused of being a witch and a wizard. This can't-put-it-down story is told from the point of view of the siblings. They both fight to stay alive.
Circle of Magic #2: Tris’s Book by Tamora Pierce (Grades 7-10)
Trisana Chandler is one of four people who are learning to be mages. Her friends are Briar, Daja, and Sandry, and they are also learning. They have to fight off pirates and figure out how to best use their powers together in order to get through the attack and win. This page-turner is a story of friendship, teamwork, and inner strength. It's full of twists and turns. Take it as a sign that they're a voracious middle or high school reader.

Witch Born by Nicholas Bowling (Grades 7+)
She goes on a journey to find out what happened to her family and fight for good and evil after her mother was killed by a witch hunter. This story of dark magic is full of twists and turns, and your middle schooler will love it.
The Broken Earth Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin
Now, some people might say that the Orogenes in N.K. Jemison's books aren't wizards, but to me, that doesn't mean they aren't good at their job. After all, one of them is strong enough to break a continental plate in two right down the center. In the same way, the idea of moving entire planets with magic is a central idea in the trilogy. The power of these wizards is so great that they can (and often do) cause extinction events. I think that counts. I've seen some of the most amazing stories in years, and this one is one of the best I've seen in a long time. I think it deserves all the awards it's won along the way. Start reading the trilogy for the disaster porn, then keep reading for the beautiful world-building and heart-wrenching ending.
