Dragonwatch by Brandon Mull

Description

It's in the secret dragon sanctuary of Wyrmroost that Celebrant the Just, King of the Dragons, thinks up ways to get back at the people who hurt him. To him, sanctuaries are prisons. He wants nothing more than to overthrow his captors and return the world to the Age of Dragons, when he and his kind reigned over the world with no borders. Break free and take back his power.

In the end, Celebrant and his dragon horde will not be stopped by anyone. To save the world, the old order of Dragonwatch will have to meet again. In ancient times, Dragonwatch was a group of wizards, enchantresses, dragon slayers, and other people who kept most dragons in sanctuaries. However, a large number of those who used to be in the Dragonwatch are now gone, so Agad asks Grandpa Sorenson for help.

They must use all of their skills, talents, and knowledge as they face this new threat. Only together can they be a powerful dragon tamer. Together, they must fight against forces with supernatural powers and magical abilities that are better than their own.

How will the epic dragon fight end? Dragons could overthrow humans and change the world as we know it, but what if they don't?

They say what they think.

4.35 stars on Goodreads

Most people give it a 5.

A lot of good reviews.

On our list of dragon books for tweens, Dragonwatch is the first one to be checked out.

This fantasy story was a hit with fans because of its imaginative world and mix of action, adventure, and dragons.

Dragonwatch was a fast-paced book that kept its readers interested as they traveled through enchanted lands, met magical creatures, and fought off danger. There were a lot of vivid descriptions that made the world come to life for them.

One more thing: People who had read the prequel series, Fablehaven, said it was fun to see Seth and Kendra again. In general, they were happy to say thatDragonwatch had the same kind of storytelling power over them as Fablehaven had done.

Angry Comments

If people didn't likeDragonwatch, what did they say? It was mostly because of two things that critics said that they didn't like the movie.

To start with, the book was a lot about explaining and describing things, which made it very long. For the second, people who read the prequel series, which had the same characters, said the book messed with their character growth. Because they liked how the characters had grown up before, they were disappointed when they saw them act in ways that seemed childish.

Fires of Invention by J. Scott Savage

Description

Trenton Colman is a 13-year-old boy who is very good at making things that move. It's not that they don't believe in him, though. Cove is a steam-powered city built inside of a mountain. The word "creativity" is a crime in Cove, and the word "invention" is a bad word.

Her father, Leo Babbage, was a famous engineer who died in an explosion. Kallista Babbage is a repair technician and the daughter of Leo Babbage, who died in an explosion.

Working together, Trenton and Kallista find out that Leo Babbage was working on a secret project before he died. Following the clues he left behind, they start to put together a strange machine that isn't like anything they've seen before. They soon find out that what they are building could change everything that their city is built on, as well as their lives.

They say what they think.

4.17 stars on Goodreads

Most people give it a 5.

A lot of good reviews.

This is the second dragon book for tweens on our list. With its imaginative, dystopian-themed world, mysteries, and well-liked characters, this steampunk fantasy drew a lot of attention from people who read it.

These people said that they had a lot of fun exploring the world of Cove, which was full of secrets and rich history. Besides that, its ban on making things and coming up with new ideas was dark and interesting. It was fun to learn more about this world, and that's part of what made Fires of Invention stand out to readers as fresh.

Others also said that the characters were easy to like. Because the cast was interesting in its own way, many people said that Trenton was the most well-developed and relatable character in the movie.

Angry Comments

It was not good. In general, if people didn't likeFires of Invention, they had two reasons for it. The love triangle didn't make sense to some people, and they didn't like it. On the other hand, some people said that the adult characters were one-dimensional, especially the villains, who did things or had reasons that were made up.

The Dragon With a Chocolate Heart by Stephanie Burgis

Description

If you want a dragon that is strong and brave, look no further than Aventurine! This shows her family that she's not afraid to leave the safety of their mountain cave and catch the most dangerous prey of all: a human. She's ready to do this to show them.

In fact, when Aventurine meets a human, the person tricks her into drinking enchanted hot chocolate. Aventurine becomes a small human girl with small, blunt teeth, no fire, and not one single claw.

But she's still the most powerful animal in the mountains, and now she's found her true love: chocolate! Getting an apprenticeship in a chocolate house, which sounds good, is all she needs to do. She'll be conquering new territory in no time, won't she?

They say what they think.

4.28 stars on Goodreads

Most people give it a 5.

A lot of good reviews.

On our list of books about dragons for tweens, The Dragon With a Chocolate Heart is the third one. This book is full of dragons and female characters who are both memorable and chocolate-y.

Fans were excited about this book because it had a unique mix of story elements: Aventurine as a dragon and a businesswoman, the fish-out-of-water fun, or "girl power" themes.

Readers also liked the rest of the cast, even though Aventurine was a favorite because of her boldness and well-rounded character, which made her a favorite. Fans said that they had different personalities, goals, and were good in their own ways, so they were not like each other.

Angry Comments

The Dragon With a Chocolate Heart has some people who don't like it.

They would say that they didn't like the story.

In general, they said there were two reasons. When I read this book, the first thing that made it hard for me to connect with it was that it took a long time to get going.

The second reason these people didn't like the book was because its "fish out of water" premise wasn't developed as much as they had hoped. Some people said that Aventurine seemed to adapt to her new body too quickly, which made them sad because they had been looking forward to seeing her fights and victories. Related to that, some people said that even though she was a dragon, she was mostly seen as a normal human protagonist.

They say what they think.

Rating: 3.97 Goodreads

Most people give it a 5.

A lot of good reviews.

Fourth on our list of dragon books for tweens is called Dragon Rider. Children's fantasy book: A fast-paced adventure, this book was written for kids but both adults and kids had a good time.

Many people said that even though the book itself is long, the pages seemed to move quickly. In addition, people who like dragons said that this story was a treat for them.

Overall, fans think this fantasy book is great for kids between the ages of 8 and 12.

Angry Comments

readers didn't like Dragon Rider because it was too similar to the typical fantasy quest story, and they said that made it less interesting. The book is simple and doesn't have any surprises or twists.

Other people, on the other hand, said that they wished the characters had more depth. The characters sounded and acted the same, making it hard for this group of people to connect with them.

Fledgling by Nicole Conway

Description

It's a rare chance for Jaevid Broadfeather to become a dragonrider for the king's army. The 15-year-old boy doesn't know that he is part of a plan that will shake the foundations of the kingdom.

His mixed-race heritage has made him hide from the rest of the world because he doesn't want to be judged.

This makes him think that his future isn't going to be very good. He doesn't want to go to the Blybrig Academy, which is usually only open to rich and royal people.

But Jaevid's case is different. No dragon has chosen a rider in decades, so the proud riders of Blybrig have to let him join their brotherhood even though his bloodline isn't the same as theirs.

Lieutenant Sile Derrick, a hard-headed man with a mysterious past, is Jaevid's teacher and takes an immediate interest in his future.

Things start to go awry while you're going through a lot of physical work in training. He sees the private guards of the king kidnap Sile in the middle of the night.

To save his teacher, Jaevid goes on a dangerous journey that could kill him.

They say what they think.

Rating: 4.09 on Goodreads

Most people give it a 5.

A lot of good reviews.

The book Fledgling is another one of our dragon books for tweens that people have said they like. A lot of people say this book is a good fantasy book for people of any age, from adults to young adults and tweens.

Readers were inspired and rooting for Jaevid and his dragon through the whole book. It was a mix of an underdog story and a coming-of-age story. In particular, they said that the two had a very good relationship.

By the end of the book, they were excited to learn more about the two of them.

Angry Comments

A lot of people didn't like the book. What did they say about it? Some of them said that Fledgling moved at different speeds. When the story moved too quickly for some people, they thought it was too fast. Sometimes, it seemed too slow.

On the other hand, some people said that parts of the story didn't make sense to them. For example, the training scenes looked like they were made up to fit in with a fantasy trope, not because they were actually necessary.
