F Scott Fitzgerald Best Books

There are a lot of great books written by F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940), and he is one of them. Author: He has been called one of the "great American novels." His stories and novels have come to be known as "Jazz Age" stories and novels from the 1920s. They are about cocktails, parties, and extravagance.

He did a lot more than this, as his five novels and many short stories show. What are some of the best Fitzgerald stories and books, by the way There are ten of his best... below.

Tender is the Night.

The title of Tender Is the Night (1934) comes from John Keats's poem "Ode to a Nightingale." This is Fitzgerald's best-known and most read book after "The Great Gatsby" (see below). Fitzgerald thought that Tender Is the Night was his best book. A book he wrote before he died in 1940 is his fourth one.

After the First World War, a group of American expatriates live on the French Riviera. The setting for the book is the beautiful French Riviera. A young actress becomes friends with a glamorous couple. She thinks about having an affair with the husband, a psychiatrist. That's not all: It turns out that this couple has more to them than meets the eye. The book is almost like a play about Fitzgerald's alcoholism and his relationship with an actress, Lois Moran.

‘The Diamond as Big as the Ritz’.

When a young man meets another man, Percy Washington, who says that his father is so rich that he owns a diamond bigger than the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, this 1922 short story is about. Percy's family owns the only five square miles of land in the whole of the United States that hasn't been surveyed. On this land, a diamond mine was found, as well as a diamond mountain that is bigger than the Ritz hotel.

The Beautiful and Damned.

His second book, The Beautiful and Damned, is about a wealthy New York socialite named Anthony Patch. When Fitzgerald wrote his later works, he often talked about marriage, alcoholism, and social status. This book is no different. A lot of Fitzgerald's work deals with the subject of romantic infatuation, which is another one of his favorite things to write about.

Four. The "Curious Case of Benjamin Button." ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’.

In 1922, the book was written about how the main character ages backwards. He was born in 1860 as a 70-year-old man, and then worked backwards through his threescore years and ten until he died as a baby. Button is the ultimate outsider: he lives his life in a way that is completely different from everyone else, even people who are close to him.

This Side of Paradise.

This was Fitzgerald's first book to be published. It came out in 1920. In this book, he talks about how the Great War had an effect on a group of young American friends. It's about a young writer who wants to be a writer. Fitzgerald wrote it quickly and for the noblest of reasons: to try to impress a woman.

She broke up with Fitzgerald after a short time together. His goal was to become a successful writer and get her back. He wrote This Side of Paradise in order to do that. Before the month was over, the first 3,000 copies of his book had sold out. Zelda had agreed to marry him, too.

‘Babylon Revisited’.

This is a little later than the other stories on this list. It was written in 1930 and published the next year. This story is about the aftermath of the 1929 Wall Street crash, but it also has flashbacks to the Jazz Age, which was a time of plenty in the early 1920s.

The story is about a man named Charlie Wales who is haunted by his mistakes from the past. It is one of Fitzgerald's most nostalgic works. The story also talks about how he has a hard time with both his wife and his daughter.

The Last Tycoon.

Fitzgerald died in 1940, and he didn't finish the last book he wrote. When it was written in 1941, it was called The Last Tycoon. There is also a version called The Love of the Last Tycoon. The book is based on the real-life director of the Hollywood film company MGM, where Fitzgerald worked when he died. It revisits some of Fitzgerald's most popular themes, like infatuation, disappointment, and status.

‘Winter Dreams’.

A lot of people think this short story written in 1922 is one of Fitzgerald's best. It's about the loss of young dreams, which is a common theme in Fitzgerald's work. The story is about a young man from Minnesota who works at a local golf club, has his heart broken by a girl, and goes off to fight in the First World War. It's based on Fitzgerald's own love life, like Tender Is the Night.

The story is similar to The Great Gatsby in that the main character is infatuated with a woman and wants to move up the social ladder. It is thought to be the best story in the "Gatsby cluster," which is a group of works.

‘The Ice Palace’.

Fitzgerald lived in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he wrote this short story in 1920. The story is based on a real ice palace that Fitzgerald saw at the 1887 Winter Carnival in his home town. An 18-year-old from Georgia is going north to meet the family of her fiance. The title refers to an epiphany Happer has in the ice palace, when she changes her mind about her fiancé and gets over her disappointment with the cold north. It's common for modernist short stories to have an epiphany, and Fitzgerald's work, "The Ice Palace," is one of his most modernist.

The Great Gatsby.

If we had to pick just one F. Scott Fitzgerald book for our tenth and last pick, it would have to be his best-known book. A character from a scurrilous Roman novel named Trimalchio lived in West Egg. The Great Gatsby was also called Under the Red, White, and Blue, The High-Bouncing Lover, and Trimalchio in West Egg (yes, really). Fortunately, Fitzgerald was able to change the title of the book.

Carraway is a young man from New York who has come to work on the stock exchange. He lives on the island of West Egg, where his next-door neighbor is the rich Jay Gatsby, who owns a house. He soon lets the mysterious Gatsby into his heart, and he learns that there is a whole world of heartbreak behind Gatsby's material success.
