Out of all the years I’ve done my list of book to movie adaptations, the last two years have been the most rollercoaster. A lot of things have been postponed, productions stopped, and things moved around in the last few years. There’s always going to be some kind of change. It was hard to keep up with everything. In 2022, there will be a lot of books that will be made into movies.
This list is always a work in progress, but this year, things could change a lot. I fully expect things to be moved up, moved back, and all over the place. There are a lot of books that have been made into movies that are in the balance right now, and I will keep you updated on them!
Keep coming back, because I’m sure I’ll be posting about new book to movie adaptations every week this year.
The Sky is Everywhere
Premise: “A shy, teenage musician is trying to keep things together after the death of her older, more outgoing sister.” (IMDB)
My favorite book, along with Jandy’s other book, “I’ll Give You the Sun.” beautiful and heartbreaking. The trailer made me cry because of sisterhood, first love, and grief. This movie is beautiful and heartbreaking. Find my review of The Sky Is Everywhere here. Apple TV+ will show this movie.
The Viscount Who Loved Me
😀 Anthony’s book is sooo good! Follow the books and watch Season 2 of Bridgerton. Anthony’s story is what we are going to be looking at in this season of the show. This book was better for me than The Duke & I. Having fun with this cast/characters is what I can’t wait to do again.
British teenagers Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring attend an all-boys grammar school. This is the story of how they get to know each other. A high-strung, openly gay overthinker named Charlie and a cheery, soft-hearted rugby player named Nick are made to sit together in class one day, but they don’t like it. Charlie is openly gay, and their friendship quickly turns into something more. At first, he doesn’t think he has a chance with Nick. However, love can work in surprising ways, and Nick is more interested in Charlie than either of them thought. (IMDB)
So happy Netflix bought the rights to Heartstopper with Alice Oseman as a writer on it. I loved it. As soon as we know when it’s going to come out, I’ll be looking forward to it. If you like cute YA romances and like to read graphic novels, this series is for you.
Where The Crawdads Sing
She was born and raised in the marshes and swamps of the South, and now she’s the person who was killed. (IMDB)
🙂 I loved this book so much, and I hope they get the atmosphere right because it was a big part of why I loved it. I think this is going to be one of the most talked about books turned into movies this year. It has a lot of fans. So, I hope this comes out in June as planned.
Premise: The lives of two sisters living in France are torn apart when World War II starts (IMBD)
You can be sure that this movie, based on a book, will be out in 2022. I know that the Fanning sisters will be great in this book. Kristin Hannah is a great author, and this book is heartbreaking and emotional.
In a blizzard, a college student is stuck at a highway rest stop in the mountains. A kidnapped child is hidden in a car belonging to one of the people inside. (IMDB)
In 2022, I can’t wait to see this book turned into a movie! If you like nail-biting survival thrillers, add this book to your winter reading list and your Hulu queue when it comes out in 2022. It will also be on Disney+ in the rest of the world.
Along For The Ride
“The summer before college, Auden meets the mysterious Eli, who is also an insomniac. They become friends.” During the night, they set out on a mission to help Auden live the fun, carefree teen life she didn’t know she wanted. (IMDB)
Netflix is adapting four of Sarah Dessen’s books. How are my fellow Sarah Dessen fans coping with this news? I’M VERKLEMPT! If you like teen romance books, Sarah Dessen is one of the first authors you should read. I’ve been reading her books for a long time and still love them at 36 years old. On Netflix, there are four book to movie adaptations. The first one is called “Alone for the Ride.” It is currently in post-production, and it will be out in 2022!
Premise: “A few hours after Halloween in 1988, four 12-year-old girls have to do a job.” To save the world, they will go back in time to save themselves. (IMDB)
In the comics world, Brian K. Vaughn is one of my favorite artists and I love Paper Girls so much. One of my favorite books is going to be turned into a TV show, even though it’s been a long time since it was announced in 2019.
Because it’s really meant to be shown on TV, thanks to Amazon Prime for getting this fun comic book series. It’s very unique and fun, but it can be a little hard to understand at first. It works out well in the next books. Fans of Stranger Things will love this!
It started filming over the summer, and I’ve read that production will start in February 2022. I hope we can get a clear release date soon, though!
The Statistical Probability of Love At First Sight
Oliver and Hadley are on a flight from New York to London when they start to fall in love with each other Love and London may be able to change the odds. (IMDB)
One of my favorite YA romance books and one of Jennifer E. Smith’s (who has two more books to be made into movies!). It’s also one of my favorite of hers. Our fingers are crossed that we will hear more soon! There were some reshoots and more photography to be done, but I think the 2022 release is going to be good. (My review of The Probability of Love at First Sight)
