It's important to know that not all places you can sell your books are the same.

If you want to sell books, you need to find a place that will take them in the condition you have them in.

You can see that in the list below, I've broken it up into two parts: one for general books, and one for textbooks.

When comparing prices for how much places will pay for your book, it's not always easy to make sure you're comparing apples to apples.

This is because you need to think about things like how much the fees are and how easy it is to print out a shipping label.

If you have to pay for postage, for example, that will change how much money you have in your pocket at the end of the transaction.

In the same way, the easier it is to sell your books, the less money you'll get for them. In theory, the more you have to work to get the best price, the more money you should be able to make. Then, you have to decide if it's worth your time.

Know Your Book's ISBN Number

It will help if you know your book's ISBN number if you want to sell your books on many of the websites or places I've suggested below.

When a book has a bar code, it usually has a 10 to 13-digit number next to or below it. This number is usually shown above or below this number (most of the time).

Sometimes you have to look a little more, like inside the front cover or even a few pages into the book. But most of the time, you don't.

It's not that difficult to type in one of these codes. If you have a lot of books to sell, though, it might be. Use one of the places below that has a smartphone app that can scan books by bar code. This will help you when you have a lot of books, but only if it's possible.

General Books

Bookscouter.com

So when you enter your book's ISBN number, it looks at prices from over 35 book-buying websites, making it easy for you to find the site that pays the most. To save you time, this price comparison will show you how much each item costs.

It's also possible to use a barcode app on your iPhone or Android to look up books without having to type in the whole ISBN number first.

The first place you should try is Bookscouter, if you are short on time and don't want to compare prices yourself.

Amazon.com (as Third-Party Seller)

To sell books on Amazon, there are two ways to do it. The first thing you can do is sell your books through a third party (The second way is for textbooks, and is mentioned lower on the page).

If you click on the link I've sent you, you can learn more about how to sell your books on Amazon. You need to set up a sellers account and then put your books up for sale.

To get paid for selling your book after it sells, you'll have to send it to the customer who bought it. Amazon will pay you after taking a fee for helping with the sale.

As with Half.com, if you want people to buy from you, you need to give good customer service and be honest about the condition of the books.

Sell Back Your Book

It's a website called Sell Back Your Book that lets you enter the ISBN number of the books you want to sell and it will tell you how much it will pay for them.

They have apps for both Android and iPhone that can help you scan books more quickly to figure out which ones they'll buy and how much they'll pay for them.

They will also pay for shipping, which makes it easier for you to figure out how much money you make when you sell books with them.

Bookstores.com

One more place that will pay you for your books and send them for free is Bookstores.com.

There are a lot of websites that buy books in the same way, but they don't all pay the same price, and they don't all accept the same kind of books.

Use as many as possible to sell them for the most money.

Half Price Books Stores

If you live in one of the 16 states where Half Price Books has stores, you've sold books to them. Bring your books into one of their stores. They'll read your books while you wait, and then they'll make you a cash offer for them all.

If you have a lot of recently published books or ones that are in high demand, they will pay the most. They will buy all of your books, not make you throw away some that don't meet their standards. So of course, the ones that they don't sell won't give you much money. They'll give them away or recycle them. But you don't have to deal with getting rid of things that aren't worth anything. You don't have to.

Yard Sales & Garage Sales

Try to sell your books together at a yard or garage sale, or put them on sale for $.25 to $1 each.

Do not expect to make a lot of money at the garage sale with books because they are usually less valuable.

Half.com

Half.com is a company that is owned by eBay, but instead of auctions, half.com sells books for a set price.

People who work at the store will be able to buy both general books and school textbooks there.

Start by setting up an account for sellers (by ISBN).

In order to keep your seller ratings high, you need to be honest about the condition of the book (which encourages more people to buy from you).

Whenever you sell a book, half.com will take a small amount for their fees. If you sell your books, the money you make goes into a PayPal account.

Textbooks

Textbooks quickly become out of date, so be ready to only sell books that are newer than 3-5 years old. If your textbooks are very old, it's very unlikely that you'll find someone willing to buy them from this list. Most likely, a new edition of your textbooks will have come out, making your old ones obsolete.

If you have a book or books that these companies want, they'll pay you a lot for them. In order to find the best price on your books, you should put the ISBN number into a few of the sites below. Because it only takes a few keystrokes to get quotes, it's worth the time.

ECampus.com

ECampus.com. ECampus.com says that they will pay you the best price for your used textbooks, but we don't believe them. When you put in your ISBN number, you'll be given a price and a free shipping label to send your books in. It's up to you how you get your money. You can get it in a check, a direct deposit, or store credit.

Cash4Books.net

Cash4books.net mostly buys textbooks, but they also buy a few other books from time to time. Website: You can also get it on your phone. You can put in a book's ISBN number and it will show you how much they will pay for it.

This means that if you have the smartphone app, you can use it to scan barcodes instead of having to write them in one by one.

If they want to use PayPal, they can do so. They even pay for the PayPal fees! or with a check, and they'll ship for free.

Textbook Rush.

This is yet another place where you can sell your college textbooks. They will give you a price for your text book if you enter in the ISBN number. They will even pay for you to send your books back. The money will be sent to you by check or PayPal, and it will arrive at your home.
