Books For New Christians

Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior of our lives, so we should be excited to follow him wherever he leads us. To grow in your faith, but maybe you don't know how to start.

Study Bible

Everything you need to know about being a disciple is in the Bible, so you know what to do. As a result, it is the single most important book for new Christians to read. It should be a good study Bible, though.

It's at the top of the list, along with the NLT or NIV Life Application Study Bible. They have simple and practical study notes and translations that are easy for new Christians to read and understand. These Bibles are great for helping new Christians understand and apply God's truth.

A good place to start is the Gospels, which tell about the first steps in being a disciple, or following Jesus. The Gospel of John is very important because John gives new Christians a close look at Jesus Christ. The book of Romans is also a good place to start because it explains God's plan for salvation very well. It is good to read the Psalms and Proverbs to people who are just starting to build a foundation of faith.

Bible Reading Plan

Second, choose a good plan for daily Bible reading. This will help you stay on track. Following a plan is very important if you want to stay consistent and disciplined as you read through the whole Bible every day. In most study Bibles, like the ones above, there are at least one or more Bible reading plans in the study tools.

For new Christians, it's a good idea to use a Bible reading plan to make a big project into a smaller one that can be done in a logical way.

Spending Time With God by Danny Hodges.

Church of the Living God in St. Petersburg

In this simple little book, written by my pastor, Danny Hodges, of Calvary Chapel St. Petersburg in Florida, I learn how to build a devotional life with God. It's a seven-part series of practical lessons. New believers will be encouraged by each lesson, which is written in a down-to-earth and humorous way that will help them grow in their faith.

Practicing Basic Spiritual Disciplines by Charles Stanley

In this case, Thomas Nelson is the person who wrote

This book talks about the things you need to do to grow in godliness and have a strong and consistent faith. Ten things that show that a person is spiritually strong and four things that show that they are growing in their faith are taught by Charles Stanley to people who are just starting out in their faith.

New Believer's Guide to Effective Christian Living by Greg Laurie

People who live in the house called Tyndale House

Greg Laurie is an evangelist who has led many people to believe in Jesus Christ. He knows the problems new believers have and the common questions new Christians ask. This simple guide will help you understand who Jesus is, how to be saved, and how to live a successful Christian life.

The New How to Study Your Bible by Kay Arthur, David Arthur, Pete De Lacy

There are a lot of books by Harvest House Publishers

Most new Christians have questions about how to understand and apply God's Word in their own lives. Kay Arthur's inductive study method, called Precepts, is one of the best ways to learn how to pay attention, interpret, and apply what you read in the Bible. This makes Bible study more dynamic, fresh, and life-changing.

Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God by Francis Chan

David Cook

Whether you are a new Christian or an old one, Crazy Love asks you to think very hard about God's love for you and how he showed it through the death of his son, Jesus Christ. Readers should think about their beliefs and actions toward God and the Christian faith in each chapter of Francis Chan's book. He asks a thought-provoking, self-examination question in each one.

The Normal Christian Life by Watchman Nee

People who live in the house called Tyndale House

This book is a must-read for most Bible students. It is a Christian classic and must be read by most. Even though it's last on the list, The Normal Christian Life has had a big impact on my Christian life, probably more than any other book I've read, except for the Bible itself.

Leader: Watchman Nee spent his last 20 years in a Communist prison. Through this book, he makes the eternal purposes of God clear and simple. As he thinks about God's great plan for salvation and the work of Christ on the cross, Nee talks about how believers are called to be servants, how the gospel is based on service and how it leads to salvation.

The Basics of Reformed Theology

The first two are by J.I. Packer, and then there are two more by him. Get to know God. Make sure you read A Quest for Godliness: The Puritan Vision of the Christian Life, which is a collection of shorter works. You don't have to read it all at once. So, in that book, Packer wrote an introduction to John Owen's book called "The End of Death." This short essay is probably one of the most important ones in the modern Reformed revival. People who had a small love for God's sovereignty were thrown into an even bigger love for God's invincible grace because of it.

There are a lot of interesting and helpful stories in Glory Road: The Journeys of 10 African-Americans into Reformed Christianity, which was put together by Anthony Carter. It's also good because these ten brothers are gateways into African-American authors that you might not know and want to read more about.

Jonathan Edwards's book, Religious Affections, is in a class of its own when it comes to elevating and clarifying the role of the emotions, or the affections, in the Christian life. There were times when I was sitting in a rocking chair in Munich, Germany, decades ago when I read this book. It was both shocking and wonderful to me at the same time. As I write this, I'm listening to it on the radio, so I can hear it. An acid bath for the Bible.
