Books Like Serpent And Dove

For the Church, Reid Diggory is an expert Chasseur, an oath-bound priest who is tasked with hunting down and burning witches. As a dangerous witch on the lam, Lou le Blanc steals to supplement her meager income while she is away from her coven. While Reid and Lou were once sworn foes, a twist of fate has brought them together as one flesh.

My favorite book is Serpent & Dove, so I put together a list of 10 books that I think other Serpent & Dove readers might enjoy. For the most part, these works are in the romance and/or fantasy genres and have comparable themes/plotlines to Serpent & Dove (e.g. good against evil, enemies to lovers, secrecy and lies, quest for power, change versus tradition, fate versus freewill, desire to escape, and appearance versus reality).

1. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Jude and her two sisters are taken from their home and imprisoned in the High Court of Faerie after their parents are assassinated. Jude must turn to trickery and brutality if she wants to rise through the ranks of the fey court, especially Prince Carden. Jude, on the other hand, is forced to form an unusual alliance when treason threatens the safety of the Court.

Romance, fantasy, good vs evil, lovers who are also foes, secrets and deceit, the pursuit of power, and change versus tradition are all present in Serpent & Dove, as are many other aspects of the story.

2. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

Due to the fact that she is descended from an ancient line of witches, Diana returns the cursed text (Ashmole 782) back to the stacks when she discovers it. As a result, Diana discovers that Ashmole 782, a highly sought-after document, has been secreted in the library. Matthew Clairmont, a vampire and geneticist, meets Diana as she tries to understand the mysteries of Ashmole 782.

Romance, fantasy, good versus evil, foes to lovers, secrecy and deception, change versus tradition, and fate versus free will are all similarities to Serpent and Dove.

3. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Feyre is kidnapped and transported to live with her captor in a fairy court after she kills a faerie who resembles a wolf in the forest. Faerieland and the human world are both in jeopardy as Feyre grows closer to her captive (the High Lord of the Spring Court named Tamlin).

Romance, fantasy, good versus evil, foes to lovers, secrecy and deceit, and fate versus free will are all present in Serpent & Dove.

4. Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

It's Simon Snow's final year at Watford School of Magicks, and he and his attractive roommate (Baz Pitch) are trying to combat the Insidious Humdrum (an evil entity that generates magical dead zones) and figure out if Baz Pitch is a vampire.

Like Serpent & Dove, there is romance, fantasy, good against evil, adversaries to lovers and secrecy and deception, the struggle for power, and fate versus free will all present in this novel

5. A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

"Beauty and the Beast" rendition, where the prince is cursed to relive the autumnal season until he finds find a love interest. Forcibly removed from her family in Washington D.C. to live with Rhen in Emberfall, young Harper, who has cerebral palsy, will do anything to help her sick mother. At some point in the future, Harper will have to choose between saving her new home in Emberfall and assisting the people of Washington.

Fantasy, romance, good vs. evil, foes to lovers, secrecy and deceit, fate vs. free will, desire to escape, and appearance vs. reality all feature in Serpent & Dove's plot

6. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

Shadowhunters Julian Blackthorn and his younger siblings, as well as parabatai Emma Carstairs, are left to fend for themselves after a tragic event in the shadowhunting world. Emma and Julian must fight their growing romantic feelings for one other while trying to care for the younger children and prevent big demonic events from occurring in the city.

Romance, fantasy, good vs. evil, secrecy and deceit, change vs. tradition, and appearance vs. reality are all similarities to Serpent & Dove.

7. Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

It is clear that Alex and Prince Henry have a mutual dislike for each other. To save their reputations, Alex and Henry must pretend that they are best friends in order to cover up their sleazy behavior. Nevertheless, Alex and Henry must decide what compromises they are ready to make in order to have a relationship with each other.

As with Serpent & Dove, romance is characterized by the transformation of foes into lovers as well as a reliance on secrecy and deceit. Other parallels include the tension between tradition and progress as well as the tension between appearance and reality.

8. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Using a long-dormant power, Alina saves the life of her best friend when their regiment traverses the shadow fold, a pitch-black abyss populated with monstrous creatures. For this reason and others, Alina is brought before King Grisha by the Darkling (magical elite). Secrets that could lead to the destruction of the shadow fold and the end of the conflict are unearthed as Alina's special powers grow stronger.

Romance, fantasy, good vs. evil, secrecy and deceit, the drive for power, fate vs. free will, the yearning to escape, and appearance vs. reality are some of the similarities to Serpent & Dove.

9. The Vine Witch by Luanne G. Smith

Elena struggles to regain her former job as the vine witch at the Château Renard vines after finally escaping the curse that had crippled her magic and kept her imprisoned to the marshlands for years; especially since Elena's beloved vineyard is now owned by Jean-Paul Martel (an amateur vigneron who believes in science, not magic). Elena must hide her identity while covertly plotting her revenge against the sorcerer who cursed her in order to save her home from the wicked hexes covering the vineyard.

Romance, fantasy, good vs. evil, foes to lovers, secrecy and deception, change vs. tradition, and appearance vs. reality are some of the themes in Serpent & Dove.

10. The Upside of Falling by Alex Light

Becca, a bookworm, and Brett, a star football player, begin a fictitious relationship in order to placate their irate friends. When Becca discloses her continuous battle to overcome the sorrow from her past, Brett's idyllic world breaks apart. They learn that they have a lot in common and that the lines between real vs artificial begin to blur as a result.
