Between the ages of 4 and 7, most kids become interested in reading. Every child learns at their own pace. Many kindergarten classes teach sight words to help kids get ready for reading, and this helps them learn how to read better. Sight words are usually made up of between 100 and 300 words that kids learn and remember in order to read and write. They fall into two groups: words that are used a lot (think: it, can, will) and words that you can’t “sound out,” like buy and talk.
These nine books are all fun and interesting places to start looking for sight words. Having a game to play while reading with your child can make it more fun. Make it a game to find the words that your child knows. Take a look at these printable lists of common sight words as you go to help you along the way!
